He studied Finance and obtained an MBA from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Upon graduating, he began his tech startup which did very well. In fact, so well that he was then able to involve himself with his passions for future technologies and philanthropy.
Jason Hope has built a name for himself as a man with a sense of technological trends. What will catch on and what may not. In the past few years, he has cultivated a reputation as a renowned futurist. He has published several articles which have been received by authorities in the tech industry with high acclaim.
The embodiment of tech and giving money to a worthy cause led to a marriage made in heaven which took the form of a non-profit known as SENS. Based in Mountain View, California, SENS is an acronym for Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence. Negligible senescence refers to an absence of the symptoms of aging. SENS seeks to develop a combination of strategies to either halt or reverse the aging process.
Towards that end, Jason Hope donated $500,000 to the researchers in 2010 to fund the establishment of a research laboratory in Cambridge, England. Since then Mr. Hope has devoted more than a million dollars to support SENS.
The objective is to thwart age-related disease. We consider certain diseases age-related illnesses because our chances of developing them will increase with age. It is this group of ailments which are responsible for the aging process – namely:
• heart disease and lung disease
• several forms of cancer
• macular degeneration
So, SENS researchers hope to prevent them from occurring thus ushering in an era where aging will become a thing of the past. Age-related illnesses make the aging process painful and debilitating.
SENS hopes to complete the foundational research which will ultimately lead to the development of a biotechnology industry which will be able to provide preventive pharmaceutical solutions to aging as we see in nature. Creatures such as the marine tortoise and the hydra, for instance, get old without suffering from age-related illnesses. If we can learn their secrets, we might be able to have longevity and good health.
I can think of no better use of a one-million-dollar gift. Thank you, Jason Hope!
