Before taking leadership as the CEO and the vice president of the American Institute of Architecture, Robert Ivy was a co-principal in the Dean/Dale architectural company. Once a fierce critic of the many national publications, Robert embraced the corporate executive position and took the place of editor in chief for the architectural record, a magazine dedicated on matters of architecture and design. Later, he became the vice president and the editorial head for the McGraw construction media which comprised several magazines such as the greensource and HQ magazine.


Over the years Robert Ivy has received numerous awards which all recognize his achievements in the architecture industry. While working as an editor in chief for the architectural record, the magazine won several awards including the much coveted premier magazine journalism award. In 2009, he received the crane award for his contribution to business media. In 2010, the Alpha Rho Chi the national architectural fraternity awarded him the master architect award for his participation in imparting knowledge on the value of architecture.
